k, thx, here it is, pruned down to just the output relevant to the external
Acomdata HD:
cje at rb:~$ mount
/dev/sdd1 on /media/EXTERNAL type vfat
(rw,nosuid,nodev,shortname=mixed,uid=1000,utf8,umask=077,usefree)
cje at rb:~$
It must be mounted as not even being able to read the directories and
sub-directories, because I can't even copy stuff off of this drive. The odd
thing is that either me or one of the DTP volunteers put stuff on the drive,
because there obviously is stuff on the drive. Here is the output of ls -l
for the dir containing the Acomdata external HD (I pruned out all irrelevant
stuff):
cje at rb:~$ cd /media/
cje at rb:/media$ ls -l
total 52
drwx------ 6 cje root 32768 1969-12-31 16:00 EXTERNAL
cje at rb:/media$
And here is the ls -l for the Acomdata drive and some sub-directories:
cje at rb:/media$ cd EXTERNAL/
cje at rb:/media/EXTERNAL$ ls -l
total 96
drwx------ 4 cje root 32768 2008-05-28 19:25 capturedDV
drwx------ 6 cje root 32768 2007-03-07 19:58 not_entire_tape_capturedDV
drwx------ 6 cje root 32768 2007-03-07 18:25 not_entire_tape_editedDV
cje at rb:/media/EXTERNAL$ cd capturedDV/
cje at rb:/media/EXTERNAL/capturedDV$ ls -l
total 51874016
drwx------ 2 cje root 32768 2007-03-07 19:53 362

Coincidentally, the large files you see in ~/capturedDV are interviews with
Warren Woodford, who founded the MEPIS distro. I am guessing that MEPIS is
not all that popular on this list, but is a nice beginner's distro, and
Warren is a really nice person. I am looking forward to getting this
footage up on the Internet Archive's Digital Tipping Point Video
Collection.
