[svlug] Server setup checklist: suggestions?

I'm still working on the list of things to check and
configure when setting up a new server.

I added a section on turning on etckeeper to track
your changes to config files, along with the way
to package your own kernel to easily keep it up to
date if you choose to track 2.6.x.y instead of the
distribution kernel.

Any other items that new admins shouldn't forget
to check before putting a machine on the big bad
Internet?

(I'm especially interested in recommendations for
a good iptables script or tool for bastion hosts.
I've been copying my own "iptables-local" init script
from machine to machine for a few years, and hope
there's a better-documented way.)
