There's no reason you should not be able to get full duplex mode on a
crossover cable, though you might have to force the ports into that mode
using appropriate software, as autonegotiation might fail (as it often
does, anyway). Think about it: You have all the signals required.
If in your experience you weren't able to get full duplex, and you _did_
try "locking" the ports to that mode, then I rather suspect the problem's
with one of the ports, rather than any inherent inability to do full
duplex over crossover cables.

I frankly wouldn't know, because I've always just make then when I
needed them. It's not like it's difficult.
Anyhow, with reasonable luck, the need for crossover cables has gone
with the buggy-whips, now that MDI / MDI-X autosensing seems to have
caught on.
