Still way slower than running offlineimap then
pointing Mutt at a local Maildir.

If you run offlineimap before and after your Mutt
session, the mail on the IMAP server will be up to
date so that you can also work on the same mail using
your mobile device, webmail, some other IMAP client,
or whatever.
