If you have aumix, you can use aumix -v +5 or -10 or whatever
interval you want.  You also might want to set the PCM level
(-w instead of -v). See man aumix for more details.

Unfortunately aumix has been DOA in gutsy, but a comment in the
bug (https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/145805) recently said it
has finally been fixed, so it's worth a try if you get the
latest aumix package.
