I'm not quite sure. On the other hand, on last Cabal meet, I had just
started an aptitude update and followed it by an aptitude dist-upgrade
when Bruce rang the doorbell and then I had to go. So I left the thing
running, and when I came home (really late) I had noticed there had
been a power outage. So, I rebooted the machine and when I got to a
shell prompt, I restarted the dist-upgrade from the beginning.
Luckily, it went through just fine, only stopping to download the few
packages it needed .
So I guess it would depend on just where you were in the upgrade,
whether or not you might experience problems like this.

What about changing your sources list to point to gutsy, doing an
apt-get update followed by an apt-get dist-upgrade?
(later, after reading other parts of thread) it seems the preferred
way to do this might be
apt-get update && apt-get upgrade then follow that with an apt-get
dist-upgrade, although on some occasions I've used aptitude
successfully on Ubuntu at least a few times and normally I just do an
aptitude update followed by an aptitude dist-upgrade.
