There was also some massive traffic on the freeway due to construction,
so many were delayed in attending.

You are wise. Having a location you can be sure you can access
beforehand is always better, though technically it had nothing to do
with the group being barred from the room and more with the sad fact
that there was no one in the building with a key to enter the room - or
any other room, for that matter. If we managed to get a point of
contact within the University, a person that could see that a room was
left unlocked, then it would have worked out perfectly.

As it was I do not think the location desired by John was at all good,
since it was on the tenth floor and due to the questionable operation of
the elevators (one didn't have a button for the ground floor) it was
doubtful that people would have found the room in that huge building.
It did have a terrific view, but logistically I do not think it was a
good choice.

Unfortunately not everyone is as skilled or as practiced in organizing
meetings as others. John did rationalize his short notice, citing that
if he didn't do it sooner, it would happen later. And that if it
happened later, it probably would not happen, since he feared that he
would forget - something I find perfectly understandable. He also noted
that he wanted to start a LUG up in Berkeley because it was a long drive
down to SVLUG, etc, nearly a 1 hour drive.
