Thank you. But my reading of the hdparm page strong suggests that it only
supports spin down for IDE drives.
Furthermore when I do:
/hdparm -C /dev/sdb
I get
drive state is: unknown
and when I do
hdparm -Y /dev/sdb
I get:
issuing sleep command
HDIO_DRIVE_CMD(sleep) failed: Invalid argument
