You can HELP get VOLUNTEERS for the Installfest for Schools by SENDING
this email to the COLLEGE or UNIVERSITY of your choice here in the bay
area.

I sent this email to the professor of an introductory CS class, to
several student groups, and to the EECS undergrad & grad department
administrators.

Volunteering helps educate both the students who volunteer, and the
students who will receive the computers.

You will want to edit & change:
1) Who the letter is addressed to (group or organization or department
name)
2) The local city: Berkeley -> nearest_installfest_city
3) Wiki signup URL for nearest city
4) Signup school name indicator: "/UCB" to "/volunteers_school"

Best wishes on your effort to help the students! :)

====================================
Hi HKN - I stopped by the HKN office the other day & asked if the people
there thought HKN members might be
interested in this volunteer event, the Installfest for Schools this
Saturday in Berkeley. They said yes, and that
I should send it to this address, and that you could forward it to the
HKN mailing list. Will you forward this to
your members, please? Thank you. :)

PS: Will you please cc me when you fw it to the HKN list? Thanks :)

On Saturday March 1st, Untangle and the ACCRC are organizing a massive
installfest for Bay Area schools. We are
refurbishing hundreds of older/discarded computers with Ubuntu and
donating them to Bay Area schools. We need your
help from Linux users installing Ubuntu at the 4 locations, which are
San Francisco, Berkeley, San Mateo & Marin
County.

Signup sheets for Berkeley are here:

Alameda County Computer Resource Center
http://www.accrc.org/

We give free refurbished computers to schools, non-profit organizations,
and economically and/or physically
disadvantaged individuals. Although our computers are all old enough
that they were discarded by their previous
owners, the ones that we refurbish are still perfectly adequate for most
home, school, and office applications. Our
refurbished systems all run a Free software GNU/Linux operating system.

Want to volunteer?
You don't have to know anything about computers to volunteer here; we
will teach you! We will show you how to fix,
how to break, and how to identify computer parts, pieces, bits, and
doodads. We will teach you how to install and
use Ubuntu GNU/Linux. If need be, we will teach you how to use a
screwdriver.
