The way I see it, it is still maintained, as far as security problems
are concerned. It's just that no new features are added. It may still
be good enough for what you need:

Plus, the source is there and it's FOSS, so you can volunteer to
maintain it (or hire someone to do so).
In any case, it would have been useful to mention the alternatives you
already looked at and why you rejected them in the original post.
