I have root on a hosted box, but I don't want to run up our bandwidth
cost by hosting images there. I like letting Flickr eat that cost
while making my high-res pictures available. Also the social
networking aspects of Flickr give my photos levels of visibility that
I couldn't get by hosting them myself.

Of course I do keep copies of all my photos on my own computers, so if
Flickr were to disappear or be acquired by MSFT and I delete my
account, or whatever, I would not lose anything.

I do agree with you as far as normal hosting goes; my blogs and Web
sites are hosted on a machine I have (shared) control over, not on
something like blogger or blogspot or whatever.
