But we could really use another serious contender to
offer ads for independent sites, so that you can play
them off against Google AdSense and increase the share
of the ad revenue that you get as author or webmaster.

Right now a huge share of the ad money is going to
sites with their own professional sales forces or
to Google.  If someone can start a price war, the
webmasters win.
