[svlug] dot-coop as a domain name???

Hey guys,

I know this is not Linux related, but I can't 
think of a group or source for a good explanation 
for this, and this is about the brainiest list I'm on.

I just got an email address from the local food 
co-op grocery store around the corner and it is

l.olson at willystreet.coop

I'm baffled that it does not have to end in one of 
   the regular .com, .org. us, etc type domain 
suffixes.

Can someone explain how this is possible, or if 
coop is simply one I was unaware of???
