I was having trouble getting my treo to synch with jpilot on my
thinkpad running kubuntu 7.04.

I finally found that the solution was to set the device in preferences
to "usb:" rather than "/dev/ttyUSB0" or "/dev/pilot"

On fedora core 6 you still have to leave the Serial Port field in
preferences->settings blank, hit the synch button on the treo cable,
wait for it to say that it is making connection, then hit the sync
button on jpilot.
