Related to the subject of quiet, does anyone run their computers off
of 12V?

I've got an inverter and RV battery that I use as my UPS. Rather than
bumping it up to 120V AC, then back down to 12 and 5, it'd probably be
more efficient to make use of the 12VDC.

I also have the interesting problem that it doesn't switch over fast
enough to keep my CPUs from rebooting, so I have to have a little UPS
to keep the voltage up for the 20-100mSec or so it takes to
switch. The problem being that all of my newer power supplies see the
modified sine wave output, think that the powers going out, and just
switch over, even when my big UPS (the Family Joules) is happily
cranking out 120VAC.
