[svlug] LVM Best Practices?

Hi All
I am considering converting my Debian file system to LVM, but I have
a few questions before I start.
Currently I have 2 300 GB and 1 400 GB SATA drives. The primary drive
is mostly full with a standard filesystem setup (/ ,/tmp /usr /var,
/home, etc). I have a single partition of 100GB on the second drive
that is used to store temp backups. The 400 gb drive is installed but
unused at the moment.
1) Should I setup a single large partition on each drive or should I
make a number of equally sized partitions (say 100GB) and add those to
the Volume groups?
2) Should I setup LVM on the 400, dump everything there and then setup
the the 2 300's as a raid1?
My simple path forward was to
- setup the 400 on LVM with a single partition,
- migrate everything from the second 300, format it and add that to
the volume group,
- move everything from the first 300 except / and be done.
Thanks
Clyde
