[svlug] Fedora 7 update

I recently replaced the harddrive in my laptop (Vaio PCG-FX190
http://red4est.com/vaiodiva ). When I did so, I installed Fedora Core
6. I hadn't had a chance to do much more than basic configuration
before having to set the laptop aside and work on other things.

I decided to upgrade to Fedora 7 and ran into a couple of interesting
problems. I'm curious if anyone else has run into similar
problems. Fedora 7 would not upgrade on top of Fedora 6, it would only
do a complete install, one where the partition was reformatted. I'm
glad I did it now, as I didn't lose anything but my kde configuration.
I did go with the default installation with LVMs, and I wonder if that
is part of the problem.

Another odd thing about the Fedora install program is that it still
doesn't handle the video card on my Vaio with the LCD. It comes up,
and the display is all jittery and unusable. The weird thing is that
if I boot the laptop up with a CRT plugged into the external monitor
jack, figuring I'll use that instead, both the CRT and the LCD work
just fine.

Once I finish installing, and set it up for generic LCD, it works just
fine.
