Doing what you're asking from source is likely not going to possible in
any reasonable manner, either. I think it is a safe assumption that the
one piece of legacy software to which you're referring does not require
the version of MySQL to be newer, but I cannot assume whether or not it
requires MySQL at all. However, either way, putting that piece of software
in a suitable sandbox on a more modern OS will almost certainly be a far
more viable solution.
