We all know that a hard disk is faster than a CD or DVD drive. We all know
that a hard disk is faster than 100BaseTX. But what about those two losers
against each other? If one is to image the hard disk in many machines with
the same contents, but not at the same time, which would be more
efficient per machine, having the contents be imaged from CD or DVD media
inserted in a directly-connected (PATA or SATA) drive, or having the
contents be imaged from the hard disk in a machine connected over
100BaseTX?
Yes, I know that the following also suitable methods of moving those bits
into place are faster than either of the above: Firewire, GigE, 802.11n,
eSATA, and possibly FibreChannel. I'm particularly interested in the two
that I'm asking about.
