If it hasn't already been said I have to suggest the Lenovo X Series.
I use an IBM X40 and the linux support is beyond fantastic. I use
Kubuntu, was using Gentoo, have used Fedora on this machine all with
NO problems. I did have major issues with Debian Sarge, but I don't
think that's really relevant.

If you can find an AMD laptop. I really end up having to look long
and hard to find any. HP makes the best ones IIRC, and they don't
make laptops as much as they make desktop replacements (ie.
ultraportable desktops).
