[svlug] Hardware implemented VPN

Hey all,
I would very much like to set up a VPN so I could
mount the server drives here from remote locations
as I do here in the office from the workstations.
I had always assumed this was done with software
with something like OpenVPN, but now I see this is
possible with hardware using VPN capable routers?
Here in the office we have a typical business DSL
like through Qwest with an Actiontec DSL modem.
The modem plugs into a 16 port switch and all
machines in the office plug into that.
Today I was looking the Netopia web site but
couldn't really get a feel for how I would go
about facilitating VPN with the equipment I saw there.
Am I correct in thinking that a Netopia or
comparable unit would replace the Actiontec and
have settings to allow for VPN?
I've been doing some Googling but not found any
resources that explain how our LAN might be hooked
up to allow for VPN.
If anyone could point me toward some resources it
would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Skip
