There are beginners and beginners. Beginners who
want to set up a "digital content creation" box to
edit photos, podcasts and videos, sure, they might
as well stick with the GUI for setting up everything.
Beginners who want to use Linux to run a web site
or other service on the Internet are going to have
to develop some basic knowledge of troubleshooting
and security, which means you have to learn what
a normal running Linux box looks and feels like.
That's actually easier when you aren't running Network
Manager and a bunch of GUI tools, and you can do a
"ps ax" and tell what everything is.
Beginners on a Linux server or virtual host might
never even see a Linux GUI.
