I have a Nokia N800.. it runs maemo(a debian based distro) which is
trimmed to run smoothly(man pages etc are removed). Once you ssh onto
it, its a regular machine...you can apt-get away to glory on that
machine and there are a lot of repos already available. You can drop at
my place to have a look at it..
It needs a separate gps unit(and a big memory card) to support gps. The
feature that I really like is that I can nfs mount my 500 gig harddisk
on it and use it as a ultraportable jukebox.. (it really makes ipod
touch look lame :) )
Many linux apps like nmap, pidgin, doom are already ported to it (There
is also a scumm emulator for it).. its nothing short of a full blown pc.
