Hmm. To me, it reads a lot more like a volunteer is only welcome to
help so long as you approve of how they're doing their work (ie,
strings attached), but that volunteers are allowed no such leeway.
If so, I can sort of see why some people are up in arms. My
expectation is that a group like SVLUG to work like a bunch of equal
volunteers, and the officers to be volunteers which had additional
powers to make legal commitments on behalf of the group. The officers
would have additional responsibilities, but wouldn't really have
anything in the way of additional powers (they can persuade, but not
command, if you see what I mean). So if someone told me "Volunteer in
this way, or leave", I would certainly be upset (I've quit well-paying
jobs for less, but I'm an asshole that way).
