I'm reminded of science fiction fandom, where a similar observation
applies.  Some people know (or think they know) more of the fine points
than the people nominally in charge, and they enjoy making waves.

One of the jokes going around was a proposal for a Usenet group:

 alt.sex.fetish.parliamentary_procedure
