[svlug] Any other photo geeks?

I finally purchased a digital camera with image quality good enough
for it to be worth putting any effort into software that does the
things I used to do in the darkroom. At the moment, I'm still learning
how to get the best pictures out of the camera itself, but pretty
soon, I'll need to start putting some effort into the post
processing.

Drop me a line if you'd be interested in getting together sometime to
show each other, compare and discuss various programs related to
photography and image processing. These could include things like
dcraw, gimp, tool for uploading to flickr, gthumb etc.

I live in Felton, near Fall Creek park, and one possibility would be
to meet at my house, spend a couple hours at Fall Creek, (or maybe
Roaring Camp or Bonny Doon Beach) taking pictures. Then come back to
my place where we can set up some systems to play on and compare the
pros and cons of various software tools.

Another possibility would be to meet some weeknight evening on the San
Jose side of the hill and just play with the software (assuming that
someone has a place we could use).

If you're interested, let me know what you're interested in, and
scheduling constraints. It likely won't happen until after the
holidays but a bunch of us might end up with the same free Sunday
afternoon.

My goal is to focus on linux based image processing software, but if
people have the resources to do side by side comparisons versus
Photoshop or iPhoto, that could be cool. Anybody would be welcome,
whether you have a DSLR, a point and shoot, or an instamatic (and
presumably the CD from processing at Walgreens).

I'm not looking at this being a class in taking pictures, so if you
don't know your aperture from a hole in the ground, I won't promise
that you'll get that level of tutorial, though I'm sure that if we go
out shooting, knowing this crowd, there will be plenty of people who
are happy to tell you what to do.

PS my new toy is a Pentax K100D super, if anyone else has Pentax DSLR
and want to compare notes, let me know.
