Why are everyone's panties getting into a twist about the whole video
thing? How many of you are expending productive energy on the code
walkthrough? How many of you have volunteered to lead a session, or in
any other way helped organize the event? Since we haven't introduced
ourselves all the way around, I don't know how many of the people
whinging aobut video rights have even showed up.
Has anyone priced out the cost of renting a meeting room? How about
one with power at every seat and free wifi? How about free drinks?
How about pricing out what it costs to have someone spend two hours
taping a segment, then editing it for Youtube? Off the top of my
head, I'd say that each kernel walkthrough costs Google upwards of
$1000, and they're putting the results up on the web for free.
My take on it is that if you don't like the way the event is running
you have three reasonable options:
1) Put on an event that is being run the way you like.
2) Help the people who are putting it on, and as far as I can tell
about 95% of the productive work has been done by Paul, Warren and
Jim and about 100% of the meaningful (read expensive)
infrustructure has been provided by Google.
3) STFU
