No, it is not. It is to have a place for service of legal process in the
event that someone wishes to sue the organisation.
(I used to work at CPA and law firms, passed the CPA exam, and had a
career in that field before I switched to network consulting.)

We've been through all this. The group turned it down, about a year and
a half ago. If you want to know all about incorporation, various IRS
tax-exempt statuses, insurance, and all of that folderol, I don't mind
sitting down with you and going over it yet again. Or you can see a
preview of some of what I would say in the LDP's Linux User Group HOWTO,
which I maintain:

In California, it's also $20, is biennial, and is Secretary of State
form SI-100. I do it for several groups for which I'm treasurer that
have an actual _reason_ for incorporating.
SVLUG has no rational reason. _We've been through this._ Please, can
we spare everyone the headache of going through it _again_?
