Yeah, that is a point for the voters to consider. It does seem as if there
is some strong sentiment here on the list in favor of a more formalized
process. There is a lot to be said for consensus building, IMHO. I am
sensing that Warren is fairly popular with people, but it would be nice to
have a vote so that we can take the time to hear from the group.

AFAIK, Rick is not even running. Maybe I missed it, but I didn't see Rick
suggest he was interested. Still, if Rick would like a shot at becoming VP,
and he were to run and not win (let's just say for the sake of this
discussion), then we would at least know that we made a considered
decision.

Yeah, I was talking with Daniel Gimpelevich about that the other night, and
I am looking forward to watching that as well. Linky, please? I guess that
I can just search YouTube for SV-LUG, right? (I am on a really old box
right now that can't really handle video to well).

Okay, so that is good to know. That is one important factor. But let's
talk about why you are not comfortable with this. Maybe you have concerns
that could be addressed in other ways.

This is a really good point. This is just a LUG, after all, not the US
Senate. IMHO, Warren has a large measure of legitimacy in many people's
eyes, so if you want to consider him the interim VP, I don't personally have
a problem with that. But I think that some people might still want a formal
process, and IMHO, we should think about ways to bring people together and
come up with a solution that popular with people. People will feel better
about the structure of this LUG if they feel that they have been consulted.

Okay, I hear what you are saying. But IMHO, if Rick Moen were to run (which
he has not yet announced) and the group were to vote for Rick, IMHO it would
be nice if you and Rick could work out your differences for the good of the
group. I know that I admire and like you both, but I do wish that you both
could work together here. After all, you have both contributed a lot to Bay
Area FOSS activities, and if you could just acknowledge that and work
together, I know I would appreciate it.
Also, IMHO, the prevailing wind seems to be in favor of Warren anyway. I
know that I would personally support Warren, not because Rick isn't smart
and well-qualified and dedicated, but because, as you say, you just work
better with Warren.
see ya
