[svlug] help, I need to rig some wireless now

l'm recovering from severe sinus trouble caused by readying for the remodel, now underway. Thus, the cable from my room, the only one where we can get MetroFi-Free, to the computer room isn't there anymore. I'd like to rig something that will get from their 'PEP box' to my 11mbps device we've used at Cabal. I can't even get my hp c301nr laptop to receive wireless at Ross's under any of the several distro I tried. [ wow Fry's is selling the next gen frame w a 64x2, g of ram for ~$450[ar] but it comes w vista.] 
     Can someone spare some time or advice , This project could take weeks ?
