I agree.  The opinions of some notwithstanding, I think it's a fine
(mostly) GNOME desktop implementation.

Consider using Scientific Linux instead, for HPC clusters.   Likewise
RHEL rebuild, but with the extra Fortran stuff, AFS, etc., and
maintained mostly by Fermilab and CERN.
