[svlug] "locate/updatedb" on RH, BSD and SUSE

I suffer from a semi-porous memory, and often have to find files.  On
the other hand, "find" is relatively inefficient, and I have grown used
to the use of "locate" when using Debian, etc.

Is there a similar program, where "updatedb" will store a list of files,
for almost instantaneous regurgitation by "locate" on those other linux
varients??
