hi ya svlug'erz
- k .. i checked a few more things on the new disk ..
- now the question is:
a) continue playing with /dev/hdc
- or -
b) boot the new disk and fix apache and mailman
( aka go live )
- for me, i prefer to use "b" to occur asap ...
- does anybody (legitimately) object to the change over ??
( to testing from woody )
- we'd than be able to do "apt-get updates" again
- we'd be able to install/config/run dns.svlug.org
but we still need to have svlug.org changed per the
svlug vote back in Feb, that svlug is to be a standalone
entity where any volunteer can do the work "now", in this
case, we'll need the dns servers changed which also
is paul reed's request
( 5minute quickie partial files at /mnt/hdc/etc/named/* )
- the new disk should be mirrored to other systems
on the net, so now's a good time to speak up if
you want to mirror and/or learn and/or ask questions
of "why are you doing that vs some other way"
- there is a difference between ( backup) mirroring vs
being a live 2nd site ( www2 ) like for "failover" ..
so that when svlug.svlug.org gets pulled or fails again in
the future, the other live machines can keep doing the serving
how this is done will be done a dozen different ways
when asking a dozen folks .. well maybe 3 major different ways
- it'd be good too, to move it to a (free) colo ..
so "any"authorized"body" can get to it 24x7 with a colo access card
- if you want to maintain the server in the future:
- please speak up as i'm sure the current volunteers would
like some additional help
( sign up into volunteers at svlug.org )
- the server is being worked on "now" because, it's
sitting on my customer's network and i/we feel it needs
a slight upgrade and tweeking and hopefully it will work
for the next 5 years as it has nicely done in the past
-
- the old data will remain intact on the old disk for inperpetuity
-
-
- the hijacking plan is for say thur night change over ??
- and hopefully exim4 won't be a problem but any extra exim eyes will be appreciated
-
-
- hopefully, all comments will go back this list since it affects everybody
-
c ya
