svlug.org is currently at: 157.22.35.222
please change your dns server entries
----- < short version >
per your requests ... i concur, not that it matters to anybody else,
i concur that we've over extended our stay in your colo rack that
you're paying for
- more importantly, i concur that you've notified svlug to get it out
over the years on numberous occasions
- and that you have no more power in your rack and you're
tripping the breakers and no physical space left
- unfortunately, sounds like nobody ( svlug officers or svlug volunteers )
replied to you today ... so what to do .. hummm ...
- i took the liberty of picking it up from you ( from in your car )
to get it back online asap .. i left there at say midnight ( 2 hrs ago )
- for entertainment ..
- it took me several passes to test each kernel in the lilo path
to see whcih allows "init=/bin/bash" or "init 1"
( none of them works, a bad thing, probably due to grsec ?? or
too old woody, or something config'd to prevent idiots like me
from getting root access )
- it took me a couple more passes with knoppix to get pass the
root passwd problem that i dont know... and dont use an old
monitor with knoppix, or yu'd see funny chars on the screen or nothing
- the original config files was left alone ( saved off )
( pwd, shadow, http, networking )
- quick fix but it ( svlug ) will only work on that one host where you
modify what i consider hands-off files
( do it the right way with dns if you have access to it )
-- if you want svlug.org to sorta work temporarily
vi /etc/hosts
....
blah ...
....
157.22.35.222 www.svlug.org svlug-www
157.22.35.222 lists.svlug.org svlug-lists
- in either case ..
- svlug.org is currently now up and running at 157.22.35.222
- no matter where svlug.org goes, the dns at the registrar in germany
( CSL Computer Service Langenbach GmbH ) has to have its dns
server entries updated to point to wherever svlug.org will finally
reside
you# whois svlug.org
- it's final destination should be a colo with pro bono hosting
with access cards to say at least 3 "svlug admin"
- as the registration of svlug.org currently stands, only heather at starshine.org
should be the only email account that would be allowed to make any
changes to svlug.org
to use ns1.svlug.org and ns2.svlug.org
which can point to any machine with the proper info for svlug.org
- the owners of the current dns servers can also make the ip# changes
so that the world can find svlug.org
SIGKILL.COM
NYLUG.ORG
PRIMATE.NET
- why doesn't svlug config and setup it's own ( 2 or 3 ) dns servers
so that svlug can be a self-sufficient server w/o depending on outside
servers
ns1.svlug.org
ns2.svlug.org
these changes have to be done by heather
-- if you do not make the /etc/hosts or dns changes in svlug.org files,
you will not be able to reply to svlug.org
