Pretty much the same thing here, although I have a somewhat smaller
dataset to choose from. Plus, I listen to streaming media and podcasts
from time to time as well. Admittedly, amarok has been getting more
stable - I've had trouble in the past, sometimes crashes, other times
it would simply skip a track in the playlist without so much as any
feedback.

Sure - has to be done that way even with gwenview or digikam. So far, I
prefer digikam to qwenview. I settled on using digikam to bring in the
newer pictures in the camera, rather than try and continue to use
Picasa (of course, I can always manage the pictures with Picasa at a
later time, if I want to.)
Along the way, I discovered some rather interesting miscellaneous
features of digikam that seem to be fun - such as calendar creation
(too bad the file picker from the calendar creation menu doesn't show
the thumnails of the pictures you select until *after* you select
them), batch operations, and it even seems to be able to do some search
operations if you take the time to edit the tags and so forth
(admittedly, I haven't tried this yet.)

Agreed. I too use Akregator, but am thinking of moving the
sound-related podcasts over from it to Amarok, rather than downloading
the podcasts first, and then waiting for Amarok to discover I have new
items to listen to. I'm starting to pull in radio stations with it as
well - that works sometimes, but more often than not, amarok has
trouble getting to the stream itself, although alternative means exist
which I would rather not use (such as go to some random station web
site, look around for a play button, that sort of thing.)

Hm. Perhaps I'll stick to sqlite at least for now.

I got the Kubuntu Edgy Eft release just recently, and fired it up -
nice to see that it has Amarok on, but of course ubuntu ppc and earlier
releases had it as well (I fired that up on my brother's mac, just to
try and show him amarok vs. Mac's iTunes) but then I couldn't get
kubuntu to recognize the mac hd -- I guess I didn't try hard enough.) :)
As far as freezing, I blamed it maybe mistakenly on a database issue
(was trying to get Amarok to once again use mysql) - maybe it has
nothing to do with that and it is the sound server).
