It was a tour de force.  Not polished?  Feh. ;->

In fact, my remark to Mike Simon was that the developers clearly adhere
to the Donald Knuth school of design:  Invent a clear, stunningly useful 
general mechanism to deal with a specific problem.

(Yes, I know that specific problem was picked to illustrate how to deal
with many other ones.  It worked.)

My thanks to all four of you presenters, including co-author John in the
audience.
