Good points. As I said, I am not an advocate for F-Spot. (grins ;)

And I would agree: If I developed a photo processing application, I
would assume folks would have a lot of photos and thus be very
careful about application memory footprint.

The building of the database seems like a good design choice. They
apparently had some memory footprint issues -- something that could
surely be fixed in a later version. Did F-Spot perform well after
the database was generated? I mean, did it free up all the memory
after the fact?
