Hi Joe,

So, you are running an application (F-Spot) on a host system (presumably)
running linux. And your data (the photos) exceeds the physical ram
available on the host platform -- so the kernel starts paging.

How much ram was on the host system? Not that I am an advocate for F-Spot,
but it may just be you overwhelmed the kernel page management capabilities
and any application would be performing very poorly under these
circumstances.
