I've admittedly never used Picasa. (It actually runs on Linux via Wine,
which I guess means it's x86-only, right?)
However, another KDE app I can recommend is KPhotoAlbum.
(It used to be called "KimDaBa" (KDE Image DataBase).)
It's also a bit daunting, but if we're suggesting Picasa (which I think
is a similar concept), I figured I should mention this one, too.
It lets you organize, search, and tag your photos. So you can go back and
say: "show me all pictures that include my wife, that are in San Francisco,
from 2005 and 2006."

what it does and how it works.
