Tony,

I've had really good experience with my HP DV1000 laptop. It is based
upon the centrino offering from intel. The built in video chipset does
the 3d stuff pretty well too. :)

Make sure to use a newer version of whatever distribution you choose.
eg. Fedora Core 5/6, Ubuntu Dapper Drake 6.06 or OpenSUSE. All three
seem to run quite well with support for hibernate and sleep.

The wireless card works fine after downloading the firmware and putting
it in /lib/fw or whatever directory it needs to be on your distro of
choice.

At LinuxWorld, Lenovo was touting their laptop shipping with OpenSUSE on
it. HP had a blurb about supporting Debian although I couldn't tell if
that was for laptops or not. I bet Debian SID( the cutting edge Debian
flavor) would work pretty well.

Brian Hardbarger was one of the folks working for Lenovo.

Have fun and enjoy! :)

Cheers,

Thomas
