Happy Holidays, SVLUG!

I've been looking back on this past year, and also thinking about
the future. I decided to share my thoughts with all of you.

2006 brought some significant changes for SVLUG:

* For starters, this is the first administration in SVLUG's history that
is totally free of any parent organization, bylaws, or other restraints.
SVLUG is now free of parental controls.

* For now, and, I hope, going forward, we're organized as a Do-ocracy-
those who do, do... and are rewarded for having done.

* We've relocated our internet server to via.net, who'll soon be credited
as one of our major sponsors. They've provided us with approximately
1/4 rack of space there, so we have room to grow.

* We've already added a second server there, that will soon take over
for the current server.

* SVLUG's volunteers are busy - the website and mailinglist technology
is getting a major overhaul.
  - MoinMoin will soon be driving our website.
  - Our mailinglists will benefit from a renewed anti-spam initiative.

What else to expect in 2007? Here's a sampling...

* Education and Mentoring projects are just beginning. We have some
ambitious plans, but even more ambitious volunteers, so I think there's
a good chance we'll succeed.

* SVLUG's support for Ubuntu (via the California Ubuntu Team) will
continue.

* SVLUG InstallFests and CABAL (Consortium of All Bay Area Linux)
workshops may soon be consolidated. Many regular attendees are
regular attendees at both events, so this appears to be imminently
sensible.

* SVLUG is being profiled in a number of Linux magazines this year.
While you might already know everything they say, it'll be kind of cool
to see it in print.

As you can see, we've only just begun! Let us know how you'd like
to help - and by all means, sign up on the volunteers mailinglist if
you'd like to become part of SVLUG's future.

Happy Holidays!
