It's mainly because some of the most common wireless chipsets are only
supported by very recent kernels. For example, Broadcom 43xx support
wasn't integrated until 2.6.17. Many distros don't ship a kernel that
new.

In that case, any card that any Linus kernel supports will be supported
for you, because FC6 has a very current (2.6.18.1 + patches, with Dave
Jones planning a jump directly to 2.6.20 for updates) kernel.

For distros that ship an older kernel, you might have to recompile the
kernel. For FC6, you should be in reasonable shape.
