This might be of interest to the community, but MetroFi
(www.metrofi.com) is (and has been) busy outfitting Sunnyvale and Santa
Clara with free (apparently $20/mo w/out ads) wireless access. I don't
know too much about them yet, but there is a Wifi access point right in
front of my apartment here, and I've gone and got myself qualified to
get a free wireless modem.
Personally, I don't know enough about this - in particular if they're
going to be too Windows-centric (the free access requires ads in a
browser). Hopefully they won't be windows-centric, and, depending on
what chipset this device is, and other factors, I might be crawling in
here for advice ;). DSL is what I have now for a connection, but if
wireless is good (and I'm very close to an access point) I might want
to do more with it.
And you can visit http://www.metrofi.com to see if you are close enough
to an access point.
