[svlug] Recommendations for a Linux-friendly laptop

My laptop died last night, so I am looking for replacement. The intent is to
have a Linux-XP dual boot machine.

If anyone has some advice for Linux-friendly laptop models around $1000 or
less, as well as vendors in San Jose and surrounding areas,
I would appreciate any advice.

I'm looking for these features as a minimum,

wired Ethernet, 2 USB 2.0 slots, DVD writer, 1GB ram with expansion
capability (for running VMware), 2 PCMCIA slots, and a 80-100GB HD.
