If you continue to have problems (after reading that piece), you might
want to post here again, with the contents of your /proc/scsi/scsi, and
also any USB-relevant portions of your "lspci -v" and "lsmod" output.  

Your /etc/fstab probably already includes a line like this, to mount the
abstract USB device filesystem:
none            /proc/bus/usb   usbdevfs defaults               0  0

If not, please add one, save changes, and then do "mount -a" to activate
it.  You should then have a /proc/bus/usb informational tree -- and
looking at /proc/bus/usb/devices should then become enlightening.
