Join the Silicon Valley Linux Users Group (SVLUG) this coming Wednesday to
learn about memory and cache management. This should be of particular interest
to programmers.
The presentation this month has considerable technical depth as you will see
if you look at the URL below. Thus, we hope to start the meeting (fairly)
promptly to allow time for this talk and for discussion.
WHEN:
Wednesday, October 3rd, 2007
7pm-9pm
MAIN PRESENTATION:
TOPIC:
CPU Memory and Caches
PRESENTED BY:
Ulrich Drepper
TOPIC SUMMARY:
One underestimated and misunderstood problem of programming in general, and
parallel programming in particular, can have a dramatic effect on
performance: CPU memory and caches. The talk will give an overview over how
memory actually works, how caches are utilized, the associated costs, and a
few tips for using memory and caches more efficiently. This presentation
accompanies the paper currently published by the Linux Weekly News:
