Entry Level Linux Sysadmin Position

aCerno, Inc has an available position for an entry level linux sysadmin.
aCerno is an online targeted advertising company, working to assist online
eCommerce companies to directly target new customers through the use of
non-personally identifiable shopping and purchase behavior. We are unique in

This position is specifically designed to be a mentored position, working
with engineers and developers with dozens of years of Linux development and
operations experience.

The following are the requirements for this position:
1. 1-3 years linux sysadmin experience, preferably in a
professional/production environment. Hobbyist experience will be considered
for this requirement.
2. Good basic knowledge of Unix and command line based system maintenance.
3. The ability to work well with a team.
4. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
5. The ability to lift and install rack mountable servers and equipment in a
collocation environment. Position will be responsible for physical labor
involving network infrastructure installation.
6. Strong basic troubleshooting skills.
6. Familiarity with basic network cabling.
7. Must have a valid drivers license and an automobile in good working
condition.
8. Person must be willing and able to be available and on call from time to
time on a 24 hour basis.
9. Good familiarity with Intel-based network class server hardware.
10. Person must be willing and able to travel for network installations and
upgrades, which, from time to time, span multiple weeks.
11. Good organizational skills and project follow through.
 
The following are not requirements, but are desirable, and will count
favorably towards the candidate:
1. Administration experience specifically with Red Hat Enterprise Linux or
CentOS. 
2. Familiarity with 64-bit Linux server networking
3. Managed switch administration experience, particularly with Cisco and
Foundry switches 
4. Familiarity with basic tcp/ip networking, switching, and routing concepts
and practices.
5. Familiarity with apache and mysql administration and maintenance.
6. Familiarity with Open Source/Free Software network managing and
monitoring applications
7. Basic shell and perl scripting skills
8. Basic knowledge of linux based system security practices and methods

Salary is negotiable, but it is an entry level mentored position.
Compensation package will include the full benefits package enjoyed by all
employees with the company. The position is for full time employment only -
no contacting or consulting, no part time work, no agencies, no work
sponsorship, and no relocation expenses will be reimbursed.

The position will require the employee to travel to our San Francisco office
at least twice a week (very accessible via mass transit), as well as regular
travel to our Palo Alto and Santa Clara installations. Telecommuting is
widely practiced and encouraged within the company. Position will require
periodic travel to corporate offices and installations located in Virginia,
New York, and Colorado, sometimes spanning multi-week projects in these
locations. 

In line with a mentoring position, responsibilities will start small, and
gradually increase as the candidates abilities grow. This is a position with
a great deal of room for growth and professional development, working with a
close knit and highly productive engineering team.
