Thanks, that did it.  System is back up.  

We can sit down and figure out what happened later.  (I never did like those damed UUID device references, FWIW.)

I apologise for not having been more alert and on the ball in diagnosing this problem more quickly on our end, but I'm currently a bit brain-fried because I just flew halfway around the world for 15 hours (have currently been up for about 28 hours straight) and was definitely not up for a sudden server emergency upon arrival home.
