Probably because the hostname's still getting resolved at the _server_
end.  Suggest this:

1.  Make sure "files" is before "dns" on the hosts line of
/etc/nsswitch.conf .

2.  (Temporarily) put www.svlug.org as a static mapping in /etc/hosts.

I strongly suspect, based on your earlier work, that everything's
perfect, but salute you for wanting to check.
