Sorry. Client stuff piling up is good for my mortgage, but bad for my email
response time. I fell victim to a common sysadmin bug, of assuming that
because some things are simple, they actually take zero time. They don't.
Bummer for me! (Note, not all the "simple = zero time" items are SVLUGs.
The meetings page isn't a zerotimer. That in fact is why it fell behind the
desk, because it [a] isn't paid work and [b] takes more than small-N minutes.)
I really *do* have to go back to being "Web Coordinator" instead of "the only
SVLUG webslave but with a kinda neat title". With apologies to Winston who
busts his butt to keep the linkfarm free of dust.
I'm fixing meetings.shtml and its kindred now...
I can be whapped on the head ANYTIME by someone paging me. That's what it
is for. 800 938 4078. Do not be afraid you are "interrupting" as I use it
for all communication with my out of town family when they know I might not
be at home at any given hour.
I approve of Margaret Wendall being added. I saw a couple of other people
proposed and I see no special reason to veto them. If I have to chase down
their email addresses to appove them explicitly, um, it'll take longer. I
long since deliberately forgot my password on SVLUG as I only use keyed
access, and 'root at svlug.org' I consider to be the domain of someone who can
physically get at the box, which has never been me.
I need the following Extra Tentacles:
1. someone to "own" the proper meetings page itself, meetings, shtml.
That person needs to be willing to follow the template which is
already in there. The front item (events.html) is much easier
to keep up to date if the meetings page doesn't have to be fought
with to stay in sync, and the past meetings page is easy enough
to maintain as long as the meetings page stays in the current
format.
2. someone to "own" the directions page for Cisco building 9. This
isn't hard work, but as construction goes on forever it just needs
to be twiddled once in a while. A little birdy helps whisper to me
about this sometimes. Having someone take it on directly would be
better.
3. someone to "own" the installfest page. If I get enough off my
plate (heh) I'd be willing to do this myself, but the page is
unattractive and therefore clumsy to read. The 'fest coordinator
used to maintain this himself but that was one or two 'fest coord's
ago. It needs much less work than other pages.
4. We have no CGI wizard, and have not for a while. COLA is brain
damaged and we need to think of something. The webfetch version
is quite old. I'm not sure the news widget works, but I think
that is merely that all the cronjobs were tweaked a long while
back and only the RCS-isn't-up-to-date gadget was reenabled.
In order of importance, 1, then 4, then 2, then 3.
